Martinsried, 25. September 2023 – Nach 27 Jahren erfolgreicher Tätigkeit als Geschäftsführer des Innovations- und Gründerzentrums für Biotechnologie (IZB) gibt Dr. Peter Hanns Zobel bekannt, dass er das IZB im März 2024 verlassen wird. In dieser Zeit hat er das IZB von seinen Anfängen im Jahr 1995 bis heute zu einem beeindruckenden 26.000 Quadratmeter großen Zentrum für Biotech-Start-ups aufgebaut und weiterentwickelt. Dr. Zobel blickt auf eine lange und erfüllte Karriere beim IZB zurück, in der er etwa 250 Start-ups bei ihrer Gründung und Ansiedlung in Martinsried und Weihenstephan unterstützte.

 „Ich war immer begeistert von dem Gründergeist und der Innovationskraft unserer Start-ups. Gemeinsam mit unseren Firmen haben wir einen Standort für den Freistaat Bayern geschaffen, der so fruchtbar ist, dass sich hier viele Entrepreneure sehr erfolgreich entwickeln konnten. Viele Multiplikatoren der Biotech-, aber auch aus der Pharma- und VC-Branche kommen seit vielen Jahre nach Martinsried und vernetzen sich mit den innovativen UnternehmerInnen“, so Zobel über sein Lebenswerk.

 Vor allem lobt Zobel die Unterstützung und Zusammenarbeit der benachbarten Max-Planck-Institute für Biochemie und biologische Intelligenz sowie der Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU), der Technischen Universität (TU) und dem Klinikum München am Standort Großhadern. „Gemeinsam mit den beiden Max-Planck-Instituten, in deren Kuratorium ich mich einbringen durfte, wurden wichtige Projekte wie die Kindergärten BioKids und deren Betreiberfirma die KITA BioRegio e.V. realisiert“, freut sich Zobel.

Der Bau des Hotels „CAMPUS AT HOME“ in 2014 mit dem dort ansässigen Faculty Club „G2B“ ist für viele Gäste des IZB und des Campus Martinsried sowie für die inzwischen fast 500 Mitglieder zu einem beliebten Ort des Austauschs geworden. Die beiden Gastronomien SEVEN AND MORE und THE BOWL wurden von allen Campus-Akteuren sehr gut angenommen.

„Dankbar bin ich auch für die allzeit motivierten und treuen MitarbeiterInnen der IZB, die der Garant für den wirtschaftlichen Erfolg des IZB waren und sind. Zusammen war es uns möglich, das IZB seit Beginn ohne Betriebskostenzuschüsse und zu 100 Prozent ausgelastet zu betreiben“, so Zobel über die gute Zusammenarbeit mit seinem Team.

Der reiche Erfahrungsschatz, den Dr. Zobel während seiner Tätigkeit als Geschäftsführer im IZB gesammelt hat, wird zweifellos von unschätzbarem Wert für seine zukünftigen beruflichen Unternehmungen sein. Derzeit sind jedoch noch keine konkreten beruflichen Pläne bekannt.

Dr. Zobel wünscht allen Beteiligten für ihre berufliche und private Zukunft alles Gute. Er betonte, dass die bevorstehenden Wachstumsschritte, darunter der Bau der U-Bahn, das neue Klinikum Großhadern und die Erweiterung der Max-Planck-Institute, den Campus Martinsried und Bayern insgesamt weiter stärken werden und Großes erwarten lassen.

Martinsried, September 25, 2023 – After 27 years of successful leadership as the CEO of the Innovation and Start-up Center for Biotechnology (IZB), Dr. Peter Hanns Zobel announces his departure from IZB in March 2024. During this time, he has transformed IZB from its inception in 1995 into an impressive 26,000 square meter hub for biotech start-ups. Dr. Zobel looks back on a fulfilling career at IZB, during which he supported approximately 250 start-ups in establishing themselves in Martinsried and Weihenstephan. “I have always been inspired by their entrepreneurial spirit and innovation. Together with these start-ups, we have created a thriving environment in the state of Bavaria, where many entrepreneurs have flourished. Many influencers from the biotech, pharmaceutical, and venture capital industries have visited Martinsried over the years, connecting with innovative entrepreneurs,” Zobel reflects on his life’s work.

Zobel particularly commends the support and collaboration of the neighboring Max Planck Institutes for Biochemistry and Biological Intelligence, as well as Ludwig Maximilian University (LMU), the Technical University (TU), and the Munich University Hospital in Großhadern. “Together with the two Max Planck Institutes, in which I had the privilege to participate on their board, we successfully realized important projects such as the BioKids kindergartens and the operating company KITA BioRegio e.V.,” Zobel notes with satisfaction.

The construction of the “CAMPUS AT HOME” hotel in 2014, along with the Faculty Club “G2B” located there, has become a popular gathering place for IZB and Campus Martinsried guests. The two restaurants, SEVEN AND MORE and THE BOWL, have been well-received by all Campus participants.

“I am also grateful for the consistently motivated and loyal employees of IZB, who have been the cornerstone of IZB’s economic success. Together, we have operated IZB without subsidies since its inception and maintained full occupancy,” Zobel adds, highlighting the strong teamwork.

Dr. Zobel’s extensive wealth of experience accumulated during his tenure as CEO at IZB will undoubtedly be invaluable in his future professional endeavors. Currently, no specific career plans have been disclosed.

Dr. Zobel extends his best wishes to all involved, both in their professional and personal futures. He emphasizes that the upcoming growth initiatives, including the construction of the subway, the new Großhadern Hospital, and the expansion of the Max Planck Institutes, will further strengthen the Campus Martinsried and the entire state of Bavaria, promising great opportunities ahead.
